Scholly, a James Beard winner, is only one of seventy-five certified master chefs in North America
(Charlottesville, VA - February 19, 2019) - UVA Inn at Darden is pleased to welcome and announce their new executive master chef, Edwin Scholly. Certified at the world-renowned Heidelberg Hotel Management School in Germany and winner of the prestigious James Beard Award in 2011, Executive Master Chef Scholly is one of only 75 Certified Master Chefs in North America. His work with the Presidential Food Service organization allowed him to serve four sitting presidents: George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. His celebrity clientele includes entertainers Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks.
Scholly, who speaks five languages, has traveled worldwide, managing culinary experiences in Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa, and Israel. A member of the American Culinary Federation and a participant at the Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung – known as the Culinary Olympics – he has won eight gold, nine silver, and six bronze medals in international competitions.
“Having traveled the world,” says Scholly, “I’m thrilled to now be in the Piedmont region of Virginia where there is such a rich and beautiful history of agriculture and food. I look forward to bringing my culinary vision and cultural offerings to UVA Inn at Darden’s students, staff, faculty, and guests.”
Executive Master Chef Scholly has been an instructor at the Art Institute of Washington DC, Stratford University in Baltimore, Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona, and Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Today, he fulfills his passion for teaching by providing instruction and guidance any cooks trying to attain a certification such as Certified Culinarian or Certified Executive Chef. The final step of being certified in central Virginia is to meet with Executive Master Chef Edwin for his approval.
“Our mission at UVA Inn at Darden is to create a memorable experience for our guests and visitors, to provide them with both traditional elegance and warm hospitality," says Tom Cappucci, General Manager. "With the arrival of Master Chef Scholly, our guest will be served the very best in cuisine and dining.”
