One of the best-kept secrets of Charlottesville is the plethora of activities and special events which take place seemingly every weekend. From the local perspective, the caliber and frequency of entertainment opportunities is off the chart for an area of our size - but we won't tell if you won't. As a guest, there are many main attractions that consume time and attention, but we want to focus on some of the best - and least talked about - events that can add value to your visit. We start with Fridays After Five.
Now in its 31st season, Fridays After Five is a weekly concert series that takes place on the Downtown Mall's Sprint Pavilion. Featuring local favorites and regional acts alike, "Fridays" (as the locals call it), is the best way to celebrate the start of your weekend. The best part? It's free! Be sure to support the charity of the week through food and beverage purchases. The vendors serving said fare are volunteers for the organization as well. As an extra bonus, since you're already on the Downtown Mall, take a stroll and check out the local shops and restaurants either before or after the show. There's lots to see and enjoy.
